Widespread in the Congo River basin; known from the lower Congo, Pool Malebo (Ref. 26192), middle Congo River (Ref. 26192, 41594), Kasai (Ref. 26192, 83894), Sankuru, Ubangi (Ref. 26192), Itimbiri (Ref. 106290), Aruwimi (Ref. 26192, 106290), Wagenia Falls (Ref. 26192, 106245), Lualaba, upper Lualaba and Lake Mweru (Ref. 26192). Also reported from the Lindi (Ref. 26192), but presence unconfirmed in Ref. 106290. Type-locality of the holotype of Labeo intermedius: 'Stanleyville (Ref. 41594). Type-locality of the holotype of Labeo lugubris: 'Luluabourg, Kasai' (Ref. 83894).
